Precious Memories

Last night I received news I was not expecting or ready to hear.  But then are we ever ready to receive such news….  My mom called to let me know that she had just found out that her dad (my dear Opa) had passed away from a heart attack yesterday.    It just seems so hard to believe and fathom.  My grandparents were in Florida, so it is going to be a few days before the body returns to Canada and my Oma returns home.  Please pray for all of us.  I can’t type much for all the tears…

Here are some pictures I found of Opa, which I want to share.

2003 Opa holding N.

This was taken June 2004 and we were having a picnic celebrating Opa’s birthday.  Here Opa was reading cards which my girls had made for him.  In the picture is R. and Opa.

My brother’s wedding in 2004, Opa in on the far right.   My brother is in the middle.  🙂
My husband on far left with N.

Opa talking with our fourth baby, second son.
This was taken during the fall of 2005.

Here are both my grandparents.
Opa’s first wife, my Oma, passed away from cancer when I was 16.
He later remarried, and they were so happy together! Anyway, this was taken in 2007.
Their first visit after our youngest was born!

This was taken last summer.

He is going to be really missed!  I have great memories of him from when I was growing up and I will treasure these always.  If I could I would type more, but it is hard to see here for the tears.  Praise God for the blessed hope of seeing him again when Jesus comes in the clouds of glory.

Praying the Lord will be our comfort during this time of sorrow.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another with these words
1 Thess. 4:16-18

  12. How sad but how nice to know he was able to be an Opa to you and then your children… What a privilege!
My father never got to that point; but in memorie we call my mother "oma" because he often talked of the days he would be called "opa".
When ever I would read "opa" on your blog it had a strange ringing in my ear!
He looked like a great and caring opa!
It is sooo hard to say goodbye to our loved ones!
